![]() We say movies: but the metaphor of the motion picture is in many instances too limiting. We often say film: films used to be made on film, but now many are digital. That is to say: it was what I expected, better than I anticipated, and not as much as I had hoped for. Revenge of the Sith was formulaic, the dialogue was atrocious, and the special effects, while now standard, were impressive. We got great seats and enjoyed the next two-plus hours. Perhaps, Mike said, that was only for Friday/Saturday (the 1pm, that is), so at 12:34 we walked in to the 12:30 showing and discovered that the trailers were still going-perfect. We figured we would watch the 1pm showing, but when I looked over the schedule I saw a 12:30 and a 1:45. We got to the theater about 12:30 and bought our tickets. While the tea was steeping and the coffee brewing Mike called and set up a time when I needed to be at his place: 11:30 or so we would then take an 11:45 bus in order to go to Sherie’s school to pick up her car and drive out to East Towne. I got up before 10, showered, and prepared breakfast. I also list quite a few song lyrics a snapshot of my playlist, so to speak. The force was with me: Sith, sex, self-promotion, and a summary of events. Please read the award-winning book, How Democracies Die.Anakin: No-it’s because I’m in love with you. There needs to be a peaceful transfer of power in a democracy. He wants a mob and his appointed judges to keep him in power which is not democracy - it's a coup and leads to a dictatorship. Trump is a demogogue who refuses to leave even though the majority have voted him out. Notice how Trump attacked the free press, demanded loyalty from institution heads, packed the courts, attacked demonstrators with the secret police, falsely accuses and wants to arrest his political opponents, pay to play profits, etc. Trumpism is not democracy, nor is it conservatism nor republican. There are no honest elections, no freedom of the press, political opponents are falsely accused and arrested, populist leader who profits, no checks and balances on his power, government institutions are headed by his lackeys, all judges answer to him, etc. "Illiberal democracy" is the new dictatorship and is represented by countries like Russia, Venezuela, and Turkey where they only pretend to be democracies. That means elections, freedom of the press, speech, expression, etc., nonpartisan goverment institutions, separation of powers and rule of law. Democrats and Republicans both represent "liberal democracy" aka: democracy. I don't think very highly of you, and no one else should either. If external force is actually required to make you care about that. Your actions don't just have consequences for yourself, but for everyone you come in contact with. Throughout history, including in democracies, pandemic control measures being made mandatory and enforced is the norm. And yet they do and say things that make it impossible to think of them as anything but mind-numbingly moronic. I can't speak for anyone else on the board, but I personally have lost all patience with patronizing stupid people. People would be losing children to this awful virus in 2020. If too many citizens back then were like the anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers of today, we'd still be dying of smallpox every year. As a result of that, we were able to eradicate the illness here in our country decades before a global WHO program managed to achieve that worldwide. Smallpox vaccinations were made mandatory in the early 20th century here in the US. People follow the rules religiously, so without a single lockdown they've managed to lead much more normal lives, suffer far less economic damage, and have fewer than 500 deaths to date in a nation of 52 million. Nowhere near as many whiny undisciplined little bitches there. Lockdowns aren't necessary if infection rates are not allowed to spiral out of control. The end result of all those idiots screaming about their personal liberty is there to be seen every day on the evening news, in case and death counts. Going to bars, having big birthday parties, even going to the grocery store without a mask, risks catching the disease or spreading it to others. Stay away from people - who may be sick and pass it to you. When there's a pathogen spreading through the air the ways of controlling it (until you get medicines and vaccines) are limited. You want to exercise your liberty in the ocean by ripping off your mask and taking a deep breath of salt water? Go right ahead. Things like mask wearing are no different from putting on fire gear to enter a burning building, scuba equipment to go diving, or a spacesuit to walk on the moon.
